Je suis dead
This is the company’s second piece in a proposed trilogy about identity and the invisible ties that bind us. It is conceived and directed by Fool’s Proof Theatre in collaboration with Gey Pin Ang, formerly of the Workcentre of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards in Italy.
Je Suis Dead is a show about inheritance, and everything we carry with us from our families and our culture. What happens when the unknown past communicates with the present to influence change in our lives?

Three strangers are thrown together in the aftermath of a near fatal train crash. The way these survivors react to daily life after this trauma reflects how each is now forced to deal with the world: Emily, a dreamy teacher is exposed to the brutal side of life; James, the ruthless businessman is losing control; and Helen, deeply private and alone, starts to reach out and engage with the world. In their vulnerable post-crash state, unknown ancestral figures step through the veil of their once ordered lives: Charlotte, a 1920’s Berlin Dadaist; William, a turn of the century British explorer; and Mildred a 50’s housewife from the American South. Each has a story to tell from the past which reveals family secrets and intrigues that intermingle and connect together like a twisted puzzle with the changing realities of our present day characters - three people desperately clinging on to who they believe they once were.
Je Suis Dead toured the North West in April and May 2009. Since then the piece was shown at the Untapped Festival at the Arts Depot in London and the FuryFactory Festival in San Francisco, USA. It will now be reworked to tour nationally in the UK and to the East Coast of the United States in Spring and Summer 2010.

"I would recommend it to one and all for a fabulous evening of self-reflective physical theatre. Perhaps like me you’ll leave the theatre wondering “Where exactly am I going? And has someone been here before me?” Next time Fool’s Proof come to town make sure you book your ticket!“
